Children's Safe Harbor's medical program will provide certified sexual assault nurse examinations in order to assist in the medical management of alleged victims of sexual assault.
A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner is a registered nurse who has been specially trained to provide comprehensive care to sexual assault patients and who demonstrates competency in conducting a forensic exam and the ability to be an expert witness.
Children's Safe Harbor's medical program assists child victims in the following ways:
- conducting physical examinations to assess for evidence of physical and/or sexual assault
- documenting the evidence according to certified standards provided by the Texas Office of the Attorney General Sexual Assault Prevention & Crisis Services Division
- criminal court testimony.
